Project Hope Horse Welfare Victoria (PHHWV) has been rescuing and rehabilitating abused and neglected horses for 44 years. With a steep increase in the demand for PHHWV services in recent years, there is an urgent need for community advocacy. This project will develop educational packages that: cover all aspects of caring for a horse, raise awareness of the expenses and long-term commitment involved, provide horse welfare advice, advocate the importance of reporting cases of abuse and neglect, and inform where the community can access support services. PHHWV will also develop a social media advocacy campaign and host community information forums.

Macedon Ranges Shire is home to one of the largest horse communities in Australia with an approximate $72 million equine industry across diverse equine disciplines. Educating the horse community on appropriate horse welfare will reduce the number of horses requiring rescue and unnecessary euthanasia. This project also aims to encourage our horse community to become directly involved and active in supporting horse welfare, rehabilitation and advocacy. In addition, through a social media campaign, we aim to educate the wider community on how to help and support horses at risk, so together we can prevent neglect or abuse.

What a hard working group this is. Always with the restoration of a horse's life at the front of their minds, and taking every opportunity to educate to reduce the number of horses that have been let down. It's an emotion charged issue, but more than that, it's common sense together with being respectful of and responsible to these delicious friends of humans. A much deserved grant to Project Hope ❤❤

PHHWV obtain no government funding and members volunteer over 15,000 hours a year. Education on horse welfare is key to reducing the ever increasing number of cases of horse neglect and abuse in Victoria. This is such a worthwhile project. Please encourage your network to get behind this project and vote. Good luck.

A lack of understanding of what is required to keep a horse or pony healthy and comfortable and ignorance of the associated costs, can lead to neglect. So community education is vital to ensure that horse owners and potential horse owners understand their responsibilities so that the neglect of these beautiful and noble animals ceases. This is a fantastic organisation that has been championing horse welfare for decades. PHHWV is very deserving of this grant.

I have been involved with Project Hope for 11 years and have rehabilitate over 60 horses
On my own property with the help from a dedicated and hard working voluntary group of people
We have taken on horses that have been surrendered to the RSPCA that they could not deal with
We do not sell the horses, on they are leased out to member so they are always under our watch and will never fall into the wrong hands again

Our early history of the development of our Country relied on horses without which our Pioneers could not have achieved that which they did. Their history in peace and war over 130000 when away in WW1 needs to be passed on to the Public as well as what is required to maintain these faithful companions.

Too many people obtain a horse and find they can't or don't know how to look after them as is necessary. Consequently many are literally abandoned, starve to death or end up in extremely poor condition. Project Hope do a wonderful job in rescuing as many as they can. What is lacking is education in horse management.
Too many people are allowed to breed horses without any restrictions or thought of the possible end result for the horse.

Animal welfare is everyone's responsibility but if people are not educated then they fail to see the warning signs. Lets lift the veil of ignorance for the benefit of Horses everywhere. "I didn't know" should never be an excuse for neglect or deliberate cruelty.
