This project will convert the currently used building that was a club room on Crown Land into a Heritage Centre. This building was previously the library at the primary school which was built by parents and was shifted on this site in 2008. The building needs upgrading and reinstating the Access for All pathway. Display boards and cases will be purchased to use inside the building telling the story of the area. Solar power will be installed to reduce ongoing running costs and greenhouse gases. The crown land site is managed by committee of management.

A Heritage Centre will give the community a space to visit and learn the many stories in our local history. Currently the historical society only has limited storage space with no possibility of displaying items. On the proposed site is the Mechanics Institute Hall which is the oldest public building in the area with its own story to tell. Current, new and former residents can find out more about the past characters and features of the area, giving historical members and other volunteers a way of interacting with the community.

This building would be an excellent place to develop resources about the history of the Kinglake area, to store them and to make them available to the public.

This area is rich in history and culture. It is important to display that history and to preserve it for future generations.

I am interested in the heritage of the Kinglake District. Any information old and new to do with the community is important now and in the future.

Like us at Wandong Heathcote Junction, a small town in in a big shire is often on the end of infrastructure funding. Opportunities like this are too good to pass up and we wish you well and hope your community gets behind your project.

A great community project and long overdue. This shire has been very poor with recording its history with no museum or heritage space in most of the shire.

So many significant areas in Victoria have been lost, don’t allow Kinglake and surrounds be added to that list. Kinglake and the surrounding area has a rich history that needs to be learned, shared and enjoyed by everyone. This project will help in that learning, this is why it needs to happen and happen soon before it is lost to us forever.
