A creative space welcoming women in Melbourne's inner-north. By providing a tool-lending library and skill support in an innovative workshop setting, the aims of 'her place' are to:

-Supply women in the community with new skills and a place to create, make connections, and belong.

-Empower women to redefine where 'her place' should be by offering a non-judgemental space to practice the typically masculine area of the trades.

-Encourage women by supplying expertise and role modelling from other tradeswomen.

-Support all skill levels in a collaborative environment.

-Host related community programs and workshops.

Developed with the Yarra Council’s Gender Equity Strategy in mind, this project aims to promote positive messages that address and challenge gender stereotypes and encourage strong role models. The wider community will benefit from having an equipped facility, a tool library, and a place to gather and skill-share. Melbourne is forward-thinking and diverse and ’her place’ would fit with community values and fill a gap in service. The community will benefit from being change-makers and from women’s innovation and skills being supported leading to new opportunities in employment and setting into motion a new vision for women.

I've heard about a 'Men's Shed' very often where women aren't allowed and found that bollocks. I was so chuffed to see one of your posters when riding home. I would give you guys all of my money if I had any. Thanks for putting such a great project forward.

You’ve made my day. I’m so glad that the posters are being seen and getting people like yourself interested to vote! That’s so great!
Please share it with your mates and let’s get this shed built for all the women who have been denied access to spaces where they can practice these awesome skills.

Love DIYing but not very confident on anything more powerful then a drill. Would love to learn more carpentry skills.

Thanks for your support! It would be great to have this workshop set up in the community for the long-term. There is definitely a need and an interest for community access to a space like “her place”.

Unpartnered women would especially benefit from this through skills and confidence development! It's difficult to find a decent tradie and can be challenging economically even if you do!

I could not have said it better myself.
Having the knowledge and the access to the right tools to fix a leaky tap, make something handy for the house, or sand-back an old table to make it new again are empowering skills.

I would love access to a place like this! This would be such a great way for women to learn skills and trades that typically have only have been available to men. I hope this goes ahead
