38 years ago a team of volunteers converted the Campbell Cash and Carry building in Riversdale Road, Newtown into a recreation space for Basketball, Gymnastics, Judo and Netball. Today more than 1200 people per week feel they belong to a community that fosters health, happiness and safety. Since the original repurposing of the building as a community asset, there has been a need to retro-fit the facility to cope with the climatic conditions. With no heating or cooling there are significant limitations to delivering to the community needs and expectations.

The need for the heating and cooling project has been driven by the club members.
YMCA Geelong Gymnastics & Basketball Clubs and South Side Netball Association are the largest users of the facility. The Gymnastics Club is now that largest regional club in Victoria with 1400 members. Gymnasts train from 6-32 hours per week and in weather conditions that are in increasing extreme cold or heat.
The funds for this project would directly impact the community and provide a healthy, happy and safe environment for the community throughout all weather conditions.

This is really needed within this facility. Parents find it really hard to stay and watch their child due to the extreme conditions in this facility. This would benefit all kids and parents alike.

We need to do all we can to encourage people, especially the youth which or our future, to be active. A comfortable training environment will assist in getting people moving, reducing obesity, encouraging positive behaviors and improving mental well-being.

YMCA Geelong is such an instrumental and crucial facilitator of programs for our community for people of all ages and abilities. Get on board to ensure the facility can be operated through our extreme conditions. Took me 2 min to vote. Go YMCA!!!

Many kids will benefit with nice environment to enjoy physical activities which is what they really need in this digital world. Excise, fun and a chance to make some life long friends.
Nothing worth more then assist kids growing in all areas, not just physical well being.

I have been with the YMCA for 18 year as a parent and a coach. I have experienced the extreme heat where classes have been canceled because it is to hot in the stadium.. It can get rather cold in winter and l often wonder if the athletes are warm enough. My biggest dream after all these year would be heating and cooling. Please vote for us.

How wonderful to be shortlisted for a chance to update the centre with heating and cooling. So disappointing that familes are at times unable to attend due to extreme heat or cold temperatures in the centre.
Now to be given the opportunity to be able to maintain a consistent temp for all of our families would would mean no more disappointed kids ..Good Luck Ymca 😀...
