This will be a contiguous bio-link of national significance connecting three of Victoria’s iconic ecotourist attractions (Healesville Sanctuary, Puffing Billy Steam Train and Phillip Island Nature Parks) via natural corridors on public and private land.
The area has a strong tradition of people valuing nature. It is internationally recognised as part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and as a State Conservation Priority Area. Many parts are in public ownership and it contains over 50 different ecological vegetation classes, many threatened. Conservation assets the Nature Link seeks to protect include:
• public land along the nature link
The Nature Link is designed to mitigate threats to these conservation assets including urban expansion, climate change, habitat destruction, exotic pest animals and community attitudes. Actions to achieve this include diversity strategies. People would be encouraged to engage with nature along its course through e.g. not removing native vegetation; revegetation work; joining groups and weed control.
This Nature Link Plan aims to foster links between people and nature while at the same time achieving positive biodiversity outcomes. Appropriately implemented, the Nature Link is a means of providing equitable access to nature and open space for Melbourne’s growing population.

A most sensible and logical project with significant merit and potential outcomes
Wonderful concept - congratulations to Glenn and team for setting up this project .
Have a look at the website www.hpnl.org.au
I wish great success for the team and all concerned.
This project has significant merit for the protection of local waterways and increased biodiversity in areas of rapid population growth. A great deal of preparation, research let alone time has been spent on this project. There is a real urgency in beginning works on this project.
What a fantastic project, I wish it well :)
i wish this project the greatest of success. The outcomes are for the future of this region and generations to come.
Great project! Kurth Kiln is right in the middle of it The conservation activities of the Friends of Kurth Kiln and the historic significance of the site add to greater public awareness of the range the Nature Link significance.

This forward thinking project to link nature nodes and wildlife across a broad sweep from Healesville to Phillip Island using Cardinia Waterways will be a tremendous boost for lifestyle and save some of our beautiful environment before the urban sprawl swallows us all up. In fact it is essential that planners, councils, governments and all agencies work together to preserve the wonderful botanical, marine, forests, waterways, grasslands, estuarine plains, heritage, cultural, and flora and fauna, as outlined in the extremely valuable plan prepared by Pat, Andrew and the team.
