This project seeks to enable the development of a Community Farm School initiative to provide structured vocational learning and employment pathways for school students. The project proposes to: - Develop the required infrastructure -Develop vocational pathways in horticulture, agriculture, food and building and construction -Build a community support network for the initiative across local farms, businesses and community members. -Activate the school and farm sites as spaces of community learning, skill building, celebration and connection through volunteering, workshops and events. - Develop resources for use by teachers, students and farmers across Victoria.
Communities across Cardinia Shire are experiencing a range of significant challenges directly linked with the local food system: experiencing rates of obesity 33% higher than the state average, with 95% of residents not consuming the recommended daily amounts of fresh fruit and vegetables despite living within one of Melbourne’s key ‘foodbowl’ areas. As an urban-rural interface council, the Shire is experiencing exponential population growth creating a demand for local employment and training opportunities that are currently not being met. Pakenham lies within one of these urban growth areas, where these pressures are playing out in the education and training options

This is an amazing initiative, and a great way for local farmers to provide land for young people to gain experience.

Let's help these kids get jobs and not community corrections orders or jail
Fantastic Idea, Great for all involved
Great idea for young and old.
Great Idea
Can involve all sections of the community by investing in youth education and potentially employment prospects for school leavers
Love this idea, not only for the students but for the wider community.
Sure
Always do your best. What you plant now, you will harvest later.
A great initiative.
Great Idea - Not just for the school and students, but for the wider community.
A community that has been a food bowl of Victoria for years and years - This project absolutely deserves the funding!!
This would be amazing. Our community needs this!
I believe this would help this school very much
I approve of this
Run by people with enthusiasm and a belief in their project and for the students. This one has my vote.
Its a great idea for the school and the kids and the community
This would be a wonderful opportunity for both the community and students involved.
I’d really like to get in touch and see how I can be involved if possible!
A fabulous initiative to engage our children in the process of farm to table in the context of sustainable communities.
Engaging children to learn about food, nutrition, outdoor activity and they can see and taste or cook the results of their work. Important messages for healthy eating. Great idea.
It sounds like it will benefit the whole community by making students more engaged. Students learning life skills and engaging with the community as well. It will help rope in the disengaged kids and help them in their learning. It will help kids from 7 to 12.
