A Community Gardens Hub will be developed as Stage One of CERES' Community Gardens Redevelopment, creating facilities available for all community visitors: an attractive hub gathering area with seating, shade pergola, open play space, raised garden beds for all abilities, garden tools and services (electricity/water). Access will be via a new disability standards compliant ramp (replacing inaccessible steps).

This exciting 'community access' project has been designed to bring community engagement into the Community Gardens area; it will be conducted as an initial stand-alone project, not dependent on the timing of and funding for Stage Two of the Community Gardens redevelopment.

The Community Gardens Hub will be a vibrant interactive community gathering space, providing new benefits accessible to all community visitors to CERES: 400,000 per annum from near and far:
• hosting educational community and school talks about gardening, food sustainability, environmental sustainability;
• providing demonstrations of urban food production, inviting people to participate: to dig, plant and pick the herbs, flowers and vegetables;
• providing a community space for people aged 0-99 to socialise, rest, work and play;
• ensuring access and gardens for-all-abilities with a ramp replacing steps, seating and raised garden beds available for general community use.

CERES provides so many wonderful services to so many cross-sections of the community (see above re. ages 0-99!). This is such a wonderful opportunity to increase their capacity for engagement and community education.

a great opportunity to refresh a much loved and cherished part of Brunswick. The redevelopment will allow this area to better meet its important contribution to the education progams at CERES.

This is a really worthwhile project that will engage the whole community, not just the gardeners. It will also be a resource for the many students who come to CERES to take part of their environmental education programs as well as a pleasure for people who just wander through the park for a morning walk.

What a terrific way to include more of the community to more of CERES!

So much research that shows what a positive effect community gardens have in local communities and CERES has such expertise in these areas.
