In an area where everyone is keen to get their hands dirty and grow some veggies, we have recently built a small community garden in the historic Newmarket Saleyards in Kensington. The garden is thriving, but there isn’t enough space for everyone. We are determined to grow the garden, adding more plots for people to grow veggies and fruit trees so that even more local residents can join. Together we hope to learn and practice sustainability and healthy food growing - and we can’t wait to run events and open garden days to share the space and teach new skills!

There has been an outpouring of support from the local community with lots of people wanting to get involved - but our existing garden has limited plots! The rest of the Saleyards are empty and here is our opportunity to fill them with a beautiful, thriving garden for all to enjoy. We can connect with so many local people by expanding the garden and having funds to run events, such as skill-sharing sessions. We know so much more can be done with this empty space, and just need the support of Pick My Project to turn our dreams to reality!

This is such a great initiative! From the young to old who can gather in this space to grow food and to learn and support one another through gardening. A great sense of community, mentorship and friendship.

Space that is otherwise just sitting idle is being put to good use to bring community together in gardens to grow fresh, local produce. What's not to like?

This is a wonderful initiative. In the space of 2 months the garden has produced so much food and engaged so many people. The gardens have 26 beds, imagine the possibility of another 40 beds to grow food?

Community inclusivans and food securities are two key component of a healthy and supportive community. Sharing hands on food growing skill and seeing members of all ages participating with enthusiasm is very rewarding and beneficial to the whole community.

The garden has only been going a couple of months and already making a difference to the neighbourhood. Good luck on the submission, it’s a fantastic initiative.

This new public space has so much potential...from greening the area to supporting locals to connect and learn new skills...would be great to see it grow!
