Since being built in the 1950’s, Greythorn Primary School has received minimal funding to upgrade outdoor sporting spaces. Subsequently, the grounds are now in a desperate state of disrepair and not conducive to the outdoor needs of young children. Our idea is to repurpose a currently hazardous and unappealing oval into a purpose built sports pitch with artificial turf that would be used for play, P.E. and other community activities. Responding to student engagement surveys, this project also aims to provide an appealing space for the students to play, fostering a core school value - pride.
With the rapid urbanisation of this area and multi-dwelling property development reducing yard sizes, the open space of a school yard serves as the 'backyard' for many families.
Upgrading the grounds will in turn create an ideal recreational space for: young families to enjoy quality time together outdoors (in line with this region's priority to promote healthy living) while fostering a sense of community and belonging; after school providers to deliver much sought out after-school and school holiday programs for working parents. Populating the grounds during non-school hours will also act as a deterrent to potential vandalism.

This area desperately needs an upgrade . Kids are constantly falling over and getting injured on the uneven surface and a lot of the grounds are not used because it is not easy to run and play on - making the other areas over crowded. Vote for this project !

Due to the growing student numbers at Grethorn PS, there needs to be a safer, user friendly space for children to run around and play and not have to worry about colliding with one another or being hit by passing soccer or basketballs. Please think of our childrens safety.

My 2 children attend this school and it is a great school with a great community feel. The grounds are a high use area as it is a big school. As other parents have mentioned, there are cracks, uneven surfaces and worn off patches that are slippery when wet. A redevelopment is highly needed to ensure that the kids can play without trepidation.

I attended Greythorn Primary School a few years ago and absolutely loved it, however the grounds could definitely be upgraded so that the spaces can be used by more students. Any redevelopment could only benefit existing and future pupils and greater physical, outside activity should be encouraged. Please support the school in making this happen and give students a fun area to play during recess and lunch.

This school has been fantastic for my children. The grounds and the buildings how ever are in need of urgent repair.
Cracks in the concrete are just unsafe. They need help, we want our kids to be enjoying physical activity outside in a space that is appropriate for them.
