We are seeking funding specifically for lighting and agility equipment, for the off-leash dog park to be able to be utilised for greater parts of the year, unlike currently, where darkness precludes the park from being utilised to its full potential, as demand dictates. Lighting is a significant infrastructure cost, of which the Shepparton Council does not have the funding budgeted towards such a significant capital expenditure. Lighting would go a long way to improve the actual and perceived risk experienced by park users. Agility equipment will further enhance and engage dogs who attend the park with their owners.

The benefits apply not only to the dog and the owner, but to the community at large – essentially, a tired and well socialised dog, is less likely to be frustrated, bored, more likely to be calmer in the home setting, thereby less likely to continuously bark or have other destructive behaviours at home, reducing the instances of nuisance complaints to the owner and to the Council. The benefits are not limited to the dogs; people significantly benefit from engaging at the park with other people and it positively impacts them in terms of their mental, social and physical well-being.

This is a great place for dogs and owners to gather in a social environment but to improve both accessibility and safety lighting is needed!

The Shep off leash dog park provides such an important social outlet for both dogs and their owners. But many folk can’t use the park after dusk in the winter months because of work commitments. Lighting would make such a positive difference in terms of the park’s hours of accessibility but also to patron’s sense of safety and security.

I have be a long term advocate for the need to establish an off lead park in the Shepparton council . The addition of lighting will be a great safety feature but also better usage and patronage of the resource in the community. We have struggled to gain funding to further develop the park through council funding , so we have great hopes this funding may grant the lighting we so desperately need .

We need lighting for our much loved dogs. Those who cannot bring their dogs down when it is light - those who work late, need this, their dogs need this.

Happy dogs, happy owners :)

By the time many people finish work for about 6 months of the year, it is already dark and so they do not bring their dogs down to play.
Lighting would allow owners to feel safer and we all know that an exercised and socialised dog is a better dog in an urban setting as they are generally quieter and less problematic.
Lights, action, happy dogs, happy owners, happy community!

We need this funding to obtain lighting so dogs can play in the dark. This venue is a wonderful social outing and it is an important and valuable asset to the City of Greater Shepparton.
