Visitors to, and residents of, our community will be able to take in and learn more about our historic wine village at a leisurely and healthy pace via cycle paths. The project is being developed by an organisation who have successfully implemented similar projects worldwide. The path will connect major winery cellar doors, local points of historical interest and link local cafes, bars, shops and restaurants. Our mobile app will integrate with signage, providing more detailed information on points of interest, alert visitors to special events and allow businesses to communicate with tourists.
This project is not only about building a cycle path but ensuring economic growth in our town. This type of project has already been identified in "Great Western Future Plan 2014-2024", "Grampians Pyrenees Wine tourism and culinary masterplan 2017-2020" and "The Grampians RDV Region Cycling and Trails Infrastructure Business and Master Plan". With the Western Highway bypass on the horizon this project will help to make Great Western a destination village. The economic boost that this project would bring helps to deliver on the towns vision of "...a great place to visit, a great place to live"

A wonderful project to encourage us to be active, healthy and to learn about our local area.
Great for the town. Projects like this help all of the community.
Such a fantastic project. We wish you every success!
Good for tourists; good for the town. Travelling by bike makes the carriage of wine purchases difficult. A centralised pick up point needs to be considered.
A community enhancing project that can only add to the appeal of an already iconic area by giving visitors another enjoyable experience.
What a great way to see the sights and explore Great Western
What a fantastic idea! What a wonderful tourist attraction for our region.
This is an important community position as visitors need to find all of these vineyards/wineries for selling the story!
more sites more stories
This would be ideal as it caters for all age groups, gets people off the couches, good for health and well being.
With 3 almost 4 cellar doors in Great Western, that are really only within 5kms of riding and can be accessed easily using back roads the bike trail would be a great asset to the community. Great Western has some beautiful country bush roads that very scenic and also have plenty of widelife to admire along the way. With free camping now at the Great Western Racecourse this could be the starting point.
Great idea

After Treasury Wine Estates closed Seppelt, the town has been trying hard to keep its head above water. There are some passionate, hard working residents in the town who are ready to commit to putting it back on the tourist map. With the local pub now thriving and the Salingers open under new management- it just remains for the town to appeal to a new demographic- cyclists who appreciate a great glass of wine!!
