The shared bike/walking track on the west side of the creek is increasingly being used by commuter and training cyclists, creating a hazard for walkers. By establishing an all-weather gravel track on the east side of the creek with priority given to pedestrians, this hazard would be reduced and the creek could be enjoyed by more people, especially in the winter months. Several sections of the track have already been done, eg JP Fawkner Reserve and Oak Park. By filling in the gaps with new gravel sections, the path would run for 4km from Boeing Reserve to the Freeway.

This project will benefit the local community by allowing access to areas of natural beauty along a long stretch of one of our lesser known creeks. It will provide an all-weather track along a recreational space that is currently a quagmire in the winter months. It will reduce the hazard of the current shared pathway with cyclists. It will lead to increased exercise by the community in an area surrounded by housing, so limiting the need for car travel to a recreational area.

The appeal of the east side of the creek is exactly because it has no track, that it still feels a bit wild and natural. Don't go spoiling it. If your worried about mud buy some good boots.

Yes I can see that point of view, that’s why the track would only be narrow to avoid having too strong an impact on the environment. Gravel sections that have been added near Oak Park Pool have been a great success.

What a great idea, perhaps it will be the beginning of a gravel path through to Moreland Rd and beyond eventually!

Some parts of the track south of the freeway are already gravel, around Talbot Rd/Wheeler st especially. Unfortunately there are quite a few areas with no access in West Brunswick. But yes, that would be the unlimited goal.

I suspect it will only encourage cyclists to use both sides of the creek.

Ha! Yes indeed, maybe could set a speed limit! Some cyclists walking dogs in particular...
