The future of the timber Industry is in plantations as native forest becomes a scarce resource. Farmed timber is a viable enterprise if managed properly and also provides advantages in environmental and amenity terms. The Master Tree Growers Course allows people to learn the basics of growing trees successfully and provides important linkages to the local Agroforestry Industry.

The Master Tree Grower Program is an 8 day course which will be run over 8 weeks in Gippsland for 15 landholders. The participants will visit a series of outstanding Gippsland properties and enterprises that will showcase a wide range of different ways that trees can be integrated onto farms. These include; agroforestry, biodiversity, carbon sequestration, fruit, firewood, shelter and nuts. This will inspire them to create a vision for their own properties and landscapes which includes trees for multiple purposes that suit their individual aspirations. Farmers will apply to participate in the program through an expression of interest process.
There is currently a huge opportunity for farmers to plant more trees on their farms. We have strong demand from farmers who want more knowledge on how to grow trees, what species they should be planting & where they should be planting them. The Master Tree Grower Program will be managed by the Western Port Catchment Landcare Network and facilitated by national and local leaders in tree growing and is supported by the best available scientific and practical knowledge. This ensures that participants receive the knowledge & skills that they can then use to ensure a successful outcome.

A great opportunity to get hands on knowledge from well experienced experts who practice what they preach. A must if you want to get the best value from your trees. Meet a diverse lot of people with different reasons for growing trees. An important education for landowners everywhere.
