Geelong Multicultural Film Festival

This project aims to make Geelong the Multicultural Film Festival Capital of Victoria. Building on the past 3 Ukrainian Film Festivals (UFF), in collaboration with the Pivotonian Cinema, there is an opportunity to expand the cultural offerings to include films from other ethnic communities. Key features of the UFF have included:
- Contemporary and renowned films from Ukraine
- Featuring an emerging Australian/Ukrainian film maker.
- Having the Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia officially opening the festival.
- Ukrainian food and refreshments offered to enhance the cultural experience. The UFF has attracted many visitors from Victoria and interstate, to Geelong.

Given the collegiate nature of Geelong’s multicultural communities, this project will celebrate and showcase films from other countries and attract the local communities' participation, including new and emerging ethnic communities Film and the arts provide an ideal medium for promoting cultural cohesion, inclusion and participation. We have been inspired by Pako Festa over the past 35 years as it is a glowing example of a community event which unites everyone, celebrates multiculturalism, acceptance and belonging. We envisage a film festival that strengthens cultural awareness and respect and gives communities the opportunity to share their stories.
