The local council have employed renowned play space designer Mary Jeavons Landscape Architecture to create a highly inclusive design for a children's garden, to be implemented in the Mitchell Avenue Reserve of Wangaratta. The idea of the design is to create a unique, adventurous experience for children and their families. The space will be physically challenging, interactive and provide high sensory value. I am applying for funding to support the building of this garden as I believe it will contribute huge benefits to the local community, recreationally, mentally and socially.

This project targets development opportunities for children during daylight hours, seven days of the week and free of charge. It is also going to be a highly accessible facility, both in relation to the close proximity to residential areas (over 1000 residents live within a 500m radius to the site) and two primary schools, as well as being wheelchair/ pram accessible. The Mitchell Avenue reserve is already well known and has long been held as a hub for the Yarrunga and South Wangaratta communities.

Council owe it to the community to make it equally as good as the Children's Garden found in both Royal Botanic Gardens and Albury Botanic Gardens - given this is making up for the demolition of what was a fantastic facility that was the Yarrunga Pool - on a site of 1.46ha providing great social value to families and children in the immediate vicinity and beyond.
