The project will establish an environment at the preschool in terms of energy, water and food use by installing solar with monitoring, wicking vegetable bed, water system, compost and worm farm. Children, staff and families will gain awareness about solar energy, water usage and gardening. The preschool will be able to take advantage of curricula from organisations such as Little Scientists and the Gould League to send a positive message that looking after the environment is a priority. The project can help children confidently move towards STEM subjects in education levels, raising Australian renewable technological and environmental skills.

Parkdale preschool is a community organisation celebrating its 70th anniversary. The project is a social project for the next generation, their parents and teachers and provides net social, economic and environmental community benefit. A local environmental group, Transition Kingston, is volunteering time and skills. A local solar installer has supplied quotations.

This project will assist community awareness of climate change alleviation strategies and promote confidence in engaging with technology. Environmental benefits are initially addressed by reducing fossil fuel emissions. As importantly, the project will demonstrate effective solar solution, local food and water conservation, encouraging repetition in other community settings.
