The Forrest community accommodates a growing population including farming, emergency and forestry workers and emerging numbers of young families taking up roles in tourism/emerging industries. A small fitness group has been established for the town that is overwhelmingly popular but limited by the unsuitable location at the Men's Shed.

A suitable site has recently become available as a result of DELWP vacating premises in the township and handing it over for community use. Accessible and engaging exercise classes will be provided for people of all ages and abilities, delivered through an integrated community hub overseen by the Forrest Neighbourhood House.

The popularity of existing exercise classes run at the Forrest Men’s Shed demonstrates demand for a community gym. Existing class attendees are diverse and include young people seeking to develop healthy physical habits, adults of various ages seeking to maintain physical health, recover from injury and engage socially. Some compete in amateur and professional sporting capacities and seek suitable local facilities.

This project funding application will assist the geographically and financially isolated residents of the town and surrounding areas and also parents of young children as a child play area will be incorporated into the design.

As a local for 28+ years Forrest is in desperate need for somewhere to keep fit and stay healthy especially in the colder months. What a valuable facility this would be for Forrest! Big supporter!!

In our long winter on those dark and wet nights, the thought of heading all the way up to Colac to access exercise services feels too hard. This would be incredible to have a local gym, where all ages and abilities could keep healthy and strong together. Fingers crossed!!

Benefits residents, inclusive, healthy, positive. Important local activity, particularly over the colder months!
Helps solidify community occupation and use of former DWELP site.

The development of the former DELWP site as a community hub is a community initiative and we are keen to have groups within our community such as the Forrest Gym become involved

I had been attending the fitness class and it had been a great place for young and old, variety of people in the surrounding area as well as some people were traveling from far. Outdoor activities are wonderful in Forrest but bitter weather can easily discourage the commitment of going out for fitness and social activities. It is great way to support Forrest and district people's body and mind healthy and positive.

This looks like a fantastic project to support community health and wellbeing. I particularly like the fact that it is accessible to all ages and abilities, and benefits those who are geographically isolated, like the youth and elderly. Well done Forrest Community for this initiative!
