Youth aged from 18-25 years, will work with experienced theatre director, Penny Harpham, to develop a production that will be performed at the end of the year. The production is a modern interpretation of Antigone as seen through the eyes of the ensemble. It will feature a range of different cultural perspectives, specifically focusing on Samoan cultural rituals in contemporary Melbourne by following a Samoan family in the aftermath of violence and grief. At its core, our Antigone investigates the choice a person makes in a time of crisis; to fight for what is right or to do nothing.

It teaches youth to work cohesively as a culturally diverse group and to be the role models the community needs.
It provides youth with the opportunity to express themselves through the arts, showing the wider community the skills of young people in the West and showing our own communities the opportunities that are available to us.
The project will amplify voices and stories that are commonly dismissed and unheard, which gives audiences different perspectives of the world around them, and fosters a sense of pride in young people from diverse backgrounds.

Super worthwhile project! I've been involved with a lot of Western Edge Youth Arts' programs, and loved every minute of it!
