Footscray Community Bike Shed

Footscray has a growing population and the use of bicycles is commonplace. Our plan is to collect donated bicycles from members of the community, repair them and provide them for free to children and those members of our community in need. In order to be sustainable, we will also repair and sell recycled bicycles, plus provide important bike education to our community through practical school and community education programs. Programs will include learn to ride, basic bicycle maintenance, plus a build a bike program and a bicycle exchange program for children, refugees and those in need.

With growing investment in cycle infrastructure and the increasing population in the Inner West, this program will support the community by providing free/affordable bicycle ownership options, practical support programs, and skilled employment training to local youth.
Training members of our community to deliver programs to teach children to ride provides skills and employment. Teaching young people to ride safely together with supporting programs, such as build a bike and the bicycle exchange program, will encourage our next generation the healthy benefits of safe riding, and as they grow older, it will reduce the number of cars on our local streets.
