Fitzroy Tennis Club is 124 years old this year and needs some TLC! New and improved LED lights and refurbished courts because membership subscriptions don't cover capital improvements. Our biggest wish is to replace our inadequate court lights with super efficient and bright LED lights that can switch on and off instantly by linking to the Tennis Victoria online booking app that we are just implementing. The benefits will be huge! The public will have unrestricted access to play in the evenings and as as the LED lights are significantly more efficient, the club will reduce electricity costs.

Better lighting will increase the hours the courts are playable for social, competition and tuition tennis. Replacing the synthetic court surfaces will allow for better drainage so playing can commence more quickly after rain, and reduce the likelihood of injury. Overall, better lights and court surfaces will rejuvenate and revitalise the club. This will have multiple flow-on effects for Fitzroy; attracting new players, increasing social connections and support, and decreasing the effects of sedentary lifestyles. Tennis is a remarkably social game with a huge range of physical and psychological benefits that the Club brings to everyone in Fitzroy.

New lights will eliminate the variable lighting and dark spots which make it hard for me as an older person to see the ball in some parts of the court. Better drainage will mean the courts are available faster after wet weather.

It will help enable more young and old people to play, it’s a great community resource.

The Fitzroy Tennis Club is a wonderful venue community club that caters to all ages and skills. It is in desperate need of funding to enable it to upgrade it's amenities, in particular court lighting which currently does not meet minimum standards for competition. Enabling people to play at nighttime would provide for further physical exercise, something to be encouraged given the rapidly growing rates of obesity and metabolic syndrome within the Australian population.

The Fitzroy Tennis club is a friendly and inclusive local sporting resource that is in desperate need of some capital expenditure to allow full utilisation of the space.
We as a community need to encourage participation in physical exercise, for lots of healthy reasons, and this is particularly relevant now given the growing obesity epidemic.

I fully support this project. The Fitzroy tennis club is a wonderful community asset and this suggestion for an upgrade to lighting and courts would be of great benefit to all who use it. Modernizing the amenity is also like to attracting new players which would be great.

A fantastic community asset for young and old that helps keeps the local population moving! A much needed revamp and new lighting will help the facility meet the growing demands of the entire community and ensure the club can survive for all well into the future. A brilliant initiative that totally deserves government support!

This is a wonderful community area and the courts are well used by all age groups and all grades of tennis players. It provides a fantastic social environment, encourages physical activity and is also of great historical significance. It should be supported to continue its community role, and to maintain its status as a community hub.

This is a great tennis club and a much needed project. This facility is used by many residents in the local community - children and adults . It provides a really important facility that supports social and health benefits With the growth of residential population there increasing demand and pressure on tennis courts. A much needed project. The current lighting is so poor that many players, like myself, cannot play at night time. I agree with Adam that the facilities in general need upgrading. A new club house should be next!!!

Much needed upgrade, Yarra need to get on board with this as we are ironically having trouble tonight with the lights. The facilities at the club are getting very old and it’s about time we had some support from our local government.
