Fairhills toilets/change room facilities are in grave need of upgrading after 40 years of continuous school and community use. These facilities service the school’s Performing Arts Centre (PAC) and a two-court highball stadium shared with Knox Basketball. The stadium is a joint-use facility operating seven days-a-week for both school PE classes, Knox basketball/netball training/games. The PAC is the school theatre for assemblies, drama classes and the annual production. Many community events/functions also use the facilities; Knox U3A, Indian cultural celebrations, Ferntree Gully Rotary, Interchange Outer East, local primary school Dance Fairs, weekly dance/gymnastic, self-defence classes and much more!
The current toilet/change room facilities were built in the 1970's as part the school's combined gym/hall/stage. The highball stadium addition has dramatically increased usage -with 40 years of constant student use, they are very worn, smell and have 16 cramped un-used showers.
We're keen to renovate so our diverse community of users can have clean and safe toilet/changing facilities. Both the toilets will be completely refurbished from top-to-bottom. We’ll remove the unused showers, add an inclusive change facility and expand the change rooms so they service four teams at once and be usable from backstage for the PAC.

The school community needs to feel valued by the government, at the moment, too many things are being missed.
I'm a student at Fairhills High and honestly I'm over the school. Sure the teachers are great and I've made amazing friends there but the school itself is so run down. The night of our production some family friends came to watch and later said to me that the performing arts centre hadn't changed since they'd played basketball there 20 odd years ago. Everything about the school bathrooms disgusts me and it needs to be changed. The school is perfectly happy to build a brand new gym, give trips to America to the basketball team and fund things for maths and science but nothing for the performing arts and certainly nothing for the health and hygiene of the students. The staff toilets are nice and clean but us students aren't given the same luxury. It needs to be changed and it should've been changed a long, long time ago. These bathrooms are just the start, majority of the school is in need to reconstruction because of how old and unchanged it is, we don't even have proper heating or air conditioning in some classrooms. I may sound like I'm just dragging on but nothing has changed since I've been to the school.
needed so desperately, and should have been done when the new basket ball courts were built
This school’s facilities have been diminishing for years & we wonder why student numbers are dropping. They shouldn’t have to get votes for projects like this that are a necessary requirement in every school!
Very important for children’s health and hygiene that the toilet facilities are bought up to current standards. If we want our children to have a belief in their capabilities,I think it’s a good start to shown them some respect in giving them clean, cheerful change rooms.
Sooo overdue!
Not only the toilets in the PAC are disgusting, but all the toilets at this school are. My kids hold on all day because they don't want to use the toilets at school.
When we went to an open night at Fairhills High School in 2010, the principal addressed the crowd and said that the old, run down Performing Arts Centre would be replaced with a new, state of the art centre within two years. 8 years later and still no sign of it happening. I know of parents who refuse to send their kids to Fairhills because of the state it is in. Fixing the PAC toilets is just the beginning but at least it would be a start!!!
Completely Overdue!
I have lobbied for these toilets to be rebuilt/renovated for a number of years and have spoken to the Principal of the school about them and he seems very apathetic to any change. It is not fair to the students to have to use such disgusting toilets. I point out the extreme funding from the Federal Government for private schools building new swimming pools and sports grounds while the student at Fairhills Secondary School cannot even have decent toilets. I cannot understand the electorate tolerating such inconsistencies.
A lot of schools in the area have had renovations, and/or buildings added. Let’s give Fairhills a go. It’s well overdue.
Surely we are not living in a third world country
These toilets urgently need an upgrade
A new $2 million performing arts facility was promised by the government 8 years ago...sounded great! 8 years later, my kids are finishing school there and nothing has changed or ever been built!! The toilets are disgusting and old and are not up to any decent standard - these are the toilets that visitors also use when they come to the school to watch performances; it's an embarrassment for the school and for children's morale and needs urgent renovation.
Well over due.
Do it for the children.
Toilets are in a terrible state ... really need this project to go ahead for the moral of the students and public that use these facilities.
Awesome project!
Urgently required for the multiple users of these facilities
This really needs a facelift!
Disgraceful.
I thiink these facilities are definately in need of restoration, especially with the amount of use they get
i believe this project is a top priority. The toilets are absolutely disgusting!
This school is in desperate need of any funding it can get.

These renovations are so long overdue, they were just as bad when my eldest brother was in year 7 in 2006. The conditions are so disgusting that it is probably damaging to the student's health. I am a past student and a mentor in global, and I can't count the number of times students have proposed projects to clean up the gym toilets and the principals ALWAYS SAY NO!
