Expansion of Mulgrave Neighbourhood Library

Our little neighbourhood library in the Wellington Reserve Community Centre is a one room operation. It's a fabulous space but it needs to be bigger! Used by a growing number people in the community - from pre-schoolers and their families to elderly bilingual residents who live alone - a doubling of the space will provide more wonderful services for the Mackie Road Neighbourhood House users who include elderly, disability support groups; adult and school student users as well as Chinese and Australian playgroups, library events and the maternal health new parents' group. An expanded service would signifcantly help the community.

The community will benefit by having a bigger library space which will provide an expanded service, empower existing community relationships and foster a more inviting, inclusive, community feel. The space will provide library users with longer opening hours, additional seating; a larger collection including more items in a range of community languages to meet the needs of CALD residents; an after hours return chute, a larger dedicated children’s area (the current space only accommodates one family at a time!), study desks and reading spaces.
