Cobden is slowly developing a tourism package aimed at attracting visitors north off the Great Ocean Road and south off the Princes Highway. This project will complement the historical storyboards already dotting the town's walks by acknowledging the town's past on eight (8) good-size murals in colourful and respectful ways. Visitors will have full-time access to the murals because they will be created on the walls of town businesses by local artists. Residents will develop even greater pride in their own town as they participate in the design and planning process. The murals will help us celebrate our town's history.

Cobden and district is a dairying area that has taken a hiding in recent times, thanks to low milk returns and, then, this year's St Patrick's Day fires. The impact on farmers and, by extension, the town's businesses has been considerable. No longer can we rely on the dairy industry. We must continue to look at other ways to maintain our population and sustain the town's viability. Cobden has a rich history that can support a tourism industry. These eight murals are seen as a real opportunity to promote our town while also boosting the pride of our townsfolk.
