Establishment of Farm Vigano Cultural and Community Office

The Farm Vigano property is an important cultural precinct in the northern suburbs established in 1935. The main building has been restored and the committee proposes to turn the caretaker's house into a community cultural centre to stimulate the arts by organising projects around painting, music, literature and history - especially oral histories. It aims to attract people with creative skills and also work with other members of the community in the organisation of festivals and other events. The Committee has already organised many such events.

The 'Farm Vigano' was built in 1935 in what was the rural part of Melbourne. Now it is in the middle of suburbia with around 10,000 new residents coming in annually. The venue and the Viganos contributed to the cultural history of Melbourne in the area of painting, music and cuisine. Establishing a cultural centre will provide creative people in the area opportunities to express their skills in a variety of mediums and the centre will collect a variety of books, documents and video materials adding to the cultural richness of the community and to the Whittlesea Council.
