Eltham Wildcats Basketball Club, based at Eltham High School, has over 5,400 participants. After many years of use of the stadium by students and Eltham Wildcat basketballers, the wall insulation is damaged, covered in holes and peeling away. Not only does this look unappealing, it is also not effective at keeping the stadium cool in summer and warmer in winter. To continue to provide a home court stadium for this rapidly growing basketball club that is aesthetically pleasing as well as safe and environmentally friendly, the internal walls of the stadium need to be clad with appropriate materials.

The many thousands of players, supporters, coaches, referees, students, teachers and volunteers who use the stadium every week would benefit from the wall cladding by having a home stadium to be proud of – one that looks professional, modern and appealing and is also safe, comfortable in both summer and winter and environmentally friendly. The stadium is home to the largest community based basketball club in Australia and is a focal point for our community; a place where members from all parts of our community meet and participate in sport, benefitting from the social and health benefits that sport provides.

My boys were both Eltham High students and Wildcats players and this project is very worthy of support. The club caters to an enormous number of people from juniors to seniors and does a fantastic job, as does the school and the stadium definitely needs the cladding upgraded to ensure players are able to participate safely in sport during a hot summer.

I was closely involved in the building of this facility and wanted cladding installed at the time. Unfortunately the project funding could not stretch to do this. Cladding is sorely needed and will enhance the facility and the improve the experience of all who use it.
