An architecturally engineered multi-purpose structure will be designed & built by the wider community of Brunswick North West Public School under the guidance of a construction team and in conjunction with festive events led by professional musicians and cultural artists. Using the Mud Fun approach, a youth-leadership program in school revolves around organising and hosting festive "musical mud-stomps" where participants join in to make the mud bricks and help build the public-accessible structure. Numerous new skills are learnt by all, creating a harmonious, long lasting, collaborative community spirit while developing a unique project based learning program. https://www.mudfunaustralia.com/schools

Blurring lines between work & play, Mud Fun shows an entire community that anyone can be involved in designing & building beautiful structures. Using the power of community, individual talents are discovered and encouraged, benefiting all beyond the multitude of skills they'll learn (various construction sciences, blended with cultural arts). The school community will use a new model of project-based learning; the benefits are not just practical, but reverberate far beyond the beautiful, original public building they help construct and will use long into the future.

Imagine having a significant portion of a construction budget allocated to a musical director, music ensemble and choreographer. Their job is to put together the musical mud stomp that moves the many bare feet that churn the mud that is made into bricks and walls which have a real street value. This has been done before but not on this scale. The musician and dancer is elevated from entertainer into construction project activator. Festive earthen masonry honours our ancient ancestors and indigenous people, and sparks new ideas in our youth for a brighter future. We are going to India next week to workshop the Musical Mud Stomp with cultural artists and construction workers as part of Bhoomi Puja for a proposed new earthen masonry rejuvination center in Dumka, Jharkhand.
