Education and career opportunities for regional high school students

We are excited to announce that this year’s Formula SAE event will be held at Winton Motor Raceway, and will feature 40 teams from 12 different countries. Our proposal involves using this world-class engineering student design competition as a platform for an education and career festival that will benefit regional high school students, particularly those interested in STEM careers. An interactive mentorship program will also be established between Formula SAE participants and high school students. Formula SAE will ignite their interest, and follow-up sessions conducted in schools will convert this passion into real-world career opportunities and pathways.

Most university-based programs focus on capital cities. This program will instead deliver an interactive and informative career and education festival in regional Victoria. This will enable regional students to benefit from similar opportunities to their city-based peers. The message they will receive is that science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) can be exciting and intellectually stimulating, and careers involving such areas should be given strong consideration. Information on regional career opportunities will be communicated by encouraging participation among local industry and businesses. This will reinforce that moving to larger cities is far from their only option for a rewarding career.
