Edenhope & District Community Transport Program

This project will deliver transport services to our local community. Edenhope Hospital will purchase vehicles and coordinate a group of volunteers be the drivers. One vehicle will be wheelchair accessible. Residents will be able to request a ride so they can attend medical appointments, Planned Activity Group, community activities and social events. Vehicles will also be used to take residents on excursions.
Residents using the service will contribute to the running costs if able, community fundraising activities will be undertaken to supplement income. Edenhope Hospital will take responsibility for maintaining vehicles. A co-ordinator will be employed to establish the project.

There is no public transport available within the Edenhope area. When residents are unable to drive they can become very isolated and have difficulty accessing services and social events. This project provides a solution.
Edenhope Hospital, West Wimmera Shire Council and Harrow Bush Nursing Centre support the project and have clients who would benefit from this service. The Centre for Participation have agreed to support with training volunteers to ensure they can safely perform their role. This service would enable the community to look after each other and help to increase the health and wellbeing of the whole community.
