The East Preston Community Centre front garden will be developed into a community edible garden, giving residents in the area access to its produce. Through the support of a Garden Coordinator, the community will drive the development, with all contributors invited to weekly lunches. These lunches will promote social cohesion and stimulate discussion around locally grown food and the issue of food security. The project will also be incorporated into the activities that already take place at the East Preston Community Centre. All residents will be welcomed to get involved in creating an inclusive garden space.

Food insecurity and social isolation are two key factors that contribute to the disadvantage experienced by a significant proportion of the East Preston and surrounding community. This community garden will provide residents with fresh, locally grown food to address this issue. In addition, the open nature of the proposed garden will enable all community members to get involved. By sharing a weekly meal and working to create a garden space for all, social cohesion in the community will be strengthened. Ultimately, this garden will be a central point for the community to gather and strengthen ties.
