Doncaster Playhouse Orchestra Pit Creation

Doncaster Playhouse is an intimate 100 seat theatre in Manningham, used by a number of amateur and professional theatre groups. The theatre is often at capacity and space is at a premium backstage, which limits the scope of the productions presented. Recently a hidden room was discovered under the raked seating in the theatre. The room has its own access and is the perfect space for the desperately needed orchestra pit. The proposed project plan is to refurbish this room - so that it can be used as an orchestra pit to support theatrical productions.

As an affordable theatre available for hire, the Doncaster Playhouse is in high demand throughout the year. Due to limited space backstage many theatre groups unfortunately reconsider whether the Playhouse is an appropriate venue in which to stage their production.
By upgrading the currently unused room at the theatre - including soundproofing and installing audio and sound equipment - we will effectively create an ‘orchestra pit’ for our much loved community theatre. Encouraging local music performances at the Playhouse would be a wonderful way of supporting a community who embrace live music.
