The project will support the growing local and regional interest in Aboriginal Culture. Providing a unique Dja Dja Wurrung Shelter (Garrang) amenity within the natural environment, visitors will be engaged and educated through Dja Dja Wurrung interpretive signage, gaining a deeper understanding of Dja Dja Wurrung’s rich cultural history both from the past and present. Situated alongside Lake Boort with the story of the landscape, the extensive scar trees and sites of occupation dating back thousands of years. Walking Together, the community will able to walk in the landscape and share Dja Dja Wurrungs cultural values and knowledge of Country.

The shelters will provide a point of difference for Boort and a point of attraction for Boort. Through having this valuable amenity (Shelter and seating) including an interpretative asset which can highlight this highly significant landscape and the values within it. The addition of Cultural interpretive signage will aid in reconciliation by illustrating to the wider community the relationship between the Dja Dja Wurrung Traditional Owners and Country. The project will support ongoing educational opportunities and provide a place for Dja Dja Wurrung and the Boort community to celebrate and share their values and stories of the landscape.
