Dish Pig is a mobile wash station crossed with a piece of public sculpture, powered by renewable energy. Dish Pig will be built by sculptor Ben Gilbert, in collaboration with Plasticwise Yackandandah and Totally Renewable Yackandandah. Dig Pig enables communities to run low-waste events by offering hygienic cutlery and crockery washing capability, enabling a move away from single-use disposable items. Dish pig is replicable, transportable, and will be available for loan to community groups and Councils across the Ovens Murray region. Dish Pig’s unique design grabs the attention of the public, and promotes discussion and thinking around improved waste practices.

Communities across Australia are mobilising to become more sustainable. An important aspect of sustainable communities is clever, community driven waste management. The network of Plasticwise groups in operation across the Ovens Murray region is evidence of the importance of effective waste management to our communities. As landfills reach capacity and recycling becomes less feasible, these groups seek to encourage a move away from disposables. By borrowing the Dish Pig, communities will radically reduce the use of disposables at events. Further, the Indigo Shire Council alone holds over 40 events annually that will benefit from the use of the Dish Pig.

Good luck. This is a such a great idea. Festivals and events are a big part of our regional economy, but the waste generated is huge. Facilities to reduce single use is the way to go. You've got one of my votes.

Practical forward thinking again by the Yackandandah and Indigo communities to reduce single use plastic at events! Great project and will also be available to other communities and is a model which can be shared and copied👍
