Dhauwurd Wurrung Community Centre

The purpose of our project is to refurbish an existing building by removing all internal walls and fixtures to create an open space area with kitchenette and toilet facilities that will provide a multi-purpose facility for community benefit. Our organization currently provides various programs for families which focus on building self-esteem, teaching life skills, encouraging healthy lifestyles and increasing employment opportunities. Due to lack of space, we do not have an appropriate area to facilitate the programs on a regular basis. The proposed Community Centre would ensure our community members have a culturally safe place to participate in programs.

The proposed facility will increase access to culturally appropriate programs to educate the community about the importance of health and well-being and encourage participation in capacity building activities. There is currently no other facility available in this area that provides beneficial programs for the wider community. The Community Centre will be accessible to all members of the public on a regular basis, providing stimulating activities which will encourage community involvement. This will also reduce the occurrence of negative behavior in the community caused by boredom and a lack of activities and resources for youth.
