The avenue of Lombardi Poplars was planted by Mr Lloyd Gould (dec) over a number of years to enhance the approach along the Buxton Marysville Road and restore the planting to Mr Gould’s original vision.
During Autumn the trees turn a brilliant yellow and tourists regularly stop to photograph the dramatic setting in the late afternoon sun as shadows accentuate this iconic Memorial Plantation.
The vista is spoiled by the untidy grass beneath the trees. When cut there is quantum improvement.
The Lions Club, Men's Shed and other interested parties are prepared to provide the labour.
Many visitors to Marysville stop along this stretch of road to take pictures and admire the trees. This happens throughout the year as the 4 seasons provide unique photo opportunities.
Marysville Triangle Business Tourist Inc. supports this project as it compliments the local tourism offering.
Tourism Victoria uses this Avenue in its marketing material.
This project will also bring several community groups together not only during the implementation but also in the ongoing commitment to provide labour.

Good eye candy for tourism
Adding a parking bay is an excellent idea!
I hope this includes a parking bay for the photographers.
Lovely Area
This is a great Poplar Avenue
I believe in this project, it’s not a “Tidy Town “ gesture but a commitment to community pride and a continuation of the spirit that created this memorial avenue in the first place.
