The Delacombe Community Park Gym will be provide access to all local residents to greater opportunities for exercise including strength building and cardio fitness. Doug Dean Reserve has a walking track approximately 1.5km long around which the equipment will be located. The outdoor gym equipment is durable and supported underneath with safety matting. Equipment has been purposely selected so it is usable by both old and young residents, and information boards are co-located to ensure safe use. The Delacombe Community Park Gym will include equipment to support step-ups, sit-ups, arm-dips, pull-ups, push-ups, leg-raises and presses, aerobic cycling and stretching.
The Delacombe community recently partook in a consultation to determine how to best utilise the space at Doug Dean Reserve, and creating an outdoor community park gym was highlighted as a priority that would help to improve community health. Providing free and accessible facilities to enable greater exercise opportunities is key for the Delacombe community to enable older people to remain active, to provide activities for young families and to continue to tackle the increasing rates of obesity in the broader community. This Park Gym helps to make Doug Dean Reserve a community asset that encourages and facilitates active living.
