Maffra District hospital consists of an acute hospital co-located with an aged care facility. We have identified benefits for aged members of the local community to join with our aged care residents in exercise and mobility programs run by qualified allied health staff. The reciprocal benefits of hosting activities with real health outcomes is that the resident of the facility feel integrated with their community. This is expected to deliver significant physical and mental benefits to the aged community regardless of their ability to live at home or supported within the facility.

Given that we reside in a rural farming community, the availability of such programs is limited to foster social integration value with the benefits of real health outcomes. Given the opportunity to roll out this project, it will go some way to demystifying the stigma of residential aged care and promote a community atmosphere and a sense of belonging to the community in which a majority have lived all their lives. This project will operate numerous activities and programs designed to maintain independence and mobility of all the aged residents of Maffra and surrounds.

Fabulous idea! Maintaining social interaction with fellow residents and the wider community helps to ease any sense of isolation, while providing non-residents with a positive experience of aged care, which for many, is a daunting and terrifying thought. A great way for CGH to showcase the excellence of care provided at McDonald Wing!

What a fanatstic idea. Residents will benefit in many ways, from remaining strong and healthy and a vital member of our community.
