This project will provide opportunities for 40 Indigenous and culturally diverse young people from Laverton to access the arts and arts industry experiences. We are interested in partnering with The Australian Ballet to deliver a weekly movement workshop (over 16 weeks) and week-long school holiday intensive program at The Australian Ballet's Headquarters in Melbourne.
Young people from our community will take part in workshops with dance educators as well as learn from a range of creative industry professionals. They will attend performances, observe rehearsals and go behind-the-scenes at Arts Centre Melbourne and in the ballet’s Wardrobe department and Production Centre.
This program will address a need for Indigenous and culturally diverse young people from the Laverton area to have regular access to dance/movement training that connects them with their own cultural dance practice.
We believe these workshops will help participants increase their confidence in their dance, choreography and creative skills while progressing their creative journey and supporting them with tools to promote and empower their culture.
Additionally, by introducing young people to the professions available within the creative industries, we hope to inspire them to see the potential for working in the arts, both on stage and behind the scenes.
