Recipe4Change – the award winning little enterprise with an appetite for change, because one third of our country’s young people are unemployed. In fact if you’re aged between 15-24 with a disability, chances are you won’t find a sustainable job.
Using a kitchen scenario to train and use cooking to overcome social barriers due to mental health/ learning disabilities, we partner with National Food Institute and Apprenticeships Matter to deliver our program. Add mentoring in a safe workplace to make better food choices, build employability skills, enhanced social skills and the knowledge to feed themselves wholesome meals and they thrive.
Local employers will have access to local motivated and switched on employees. Our trainees will eat and share the wholesome meals to encourage community connections including corporate mentors, with surplus (4000) provided free to disadvantaged families. Better food choices will reduce pressure on medical system through reduction in health related issues including obesity/diabetes. Their wages will put money back into the local economy & we will foster community spirit by inviting local gardeners to supply us with their excess veggies, effectively reducing food waste at the source & offering another opportunity for people to give back to their neighbourhood.
