After the Shrine of Remembrance, Mount Macedon Memorial Cross is considered the most significant war memorial in Victoria, with thousands of visitors annually. Historically there have been uninterrupted views from the Cross across valleys, villages all the way up to Port Phillip Bay. The viewscape has largely disappeared as regenerated vegetation after the Ash Wednesday Fires now obstructs views. This project is about reinstating a viewing landscape in a public area for all visitors to enjoy, including the completion of a Vegetation Management Plan inline with current legislation and a carbon sequestration arrangement as part of native vegetation offset.

There will be major community benefits at a local, regional and state level. Visitor satisfaction will increase with historical view lines reinstated, leading to higher first-time visitation, repeat visitation resulting in economic stimulus in the wider Macedon Region and beyond. The Memorial Cross will also be more visible from different vantage points in the wider Macedon Ranges community, creating greater opportunities to reflect on Australia's past war involvements. The experiences during the ANZAC Day Service will be enhanced for the thousands of visitors, witnessing sunrises over a serene setting stimulating reflection, spiritual health and overall wellbeing.

Concerned about this project because native vegetation again seems to be the loser. For a photo opp? Sounds like land clearing by stealth to me.

This is disappointing. A lot of money to destroy trees to accomodate a view that is already beautiful. We do not support this project.

A waste of money! Destroying trees is such a negative idea and all for such a vague outcome. The economic benefits are at best overstated. What happens when the trees are felled and new trees start to grow - do we than chop them down at a certain height to keep tourists happy?

This is a lot of money for a short term fix and destroying a recovering environment on the mount.
Why can't you just use the money to build a viewing tower? This would be a longer term solution with less damage and s tourist attraction in itself. Surely it wouldn't need to be that tall, could be designed with all access and might only cost the same as this proposal.
I do not support this.

This is a disgrace. Destroy regenerating native vegetation, which provides resources for native animals, just so people can have a view? Such a typical selfish view for humanity.

A great opportunity to restore the views at the Memorial Cross, a truly magnificent asset to Victoria.
