Home Share Melbourne aims to increase the amount of affordable share housing available to people who need it. The program skilfully matches people with spare bedrooms (Householders)— a demographic that’s rising steadily in Melbourne — with people looking for affordable housing (Homesharers.) People who engage with the program may be of any age over the age of 18 and must either have a spare room or be in need of affordable housing. Groups such as asylum seekers, people over the age of 55 and young people will be prioritised as Homesharers. The program will provide support to the matches.

The City of Port Phillip and surrounding areas have the lowest number of affordable lettings across the state as well as having an ageing population and an increase in single occupancy homes.

Home Share Melbourne addresses the housing shortage by encouraging and supporting people to let their spare bedrooms.

Home Share Melbourne helps to combat loneliness and isolation by connecting people. A well connected community is a healthy one.

Home Share Melbourne can support older people to live independently in their homes for longer, by matching them with a younger person who can help with everyday tasks.

A great idea! Homeshare is a really good model that has worked well for aged care, and it makes perfect sense to extend it to address the housing crisis.

A fantastic idea to increase the supply of affordable housing in Inner Melbourne, support those in housing crisis, ensure low income earners can remain living and working in Inner Melbourne and build relationships between people wanting to share the financial and practical issues of living in the most liveable but most expensive cities in the world.
