Creating bridges: Free Sikh community kitchen

The proposed ‘Free Community Kitchen’ idea roots in the Sikh faith - to treat everyone equally and promote brotherhood https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUoH_CtMd6Q This kitchen is OPEN to everyone irrespective of their backgrounds The Sikh community: - has actively volunteered to foster multi-cultural bonding in Cardinia Shire region - is keen to further support food van projects and multicultural events - owns 20-acre land that shall house proposed kitchen and veggie gardens - seeks 73% of project funding only (operational and maintenance costs borne by Sikh community) - proposes to integrate sustainability in kitchen’s design and operations - project has attracted local support

The proposed ‘Free Community Kitchen’ will:
1. foster multi-cultural engagement
2. provide food for less fortunate
3. bring communities together to co-celebrate Christmas, Eid, Diwali, Holi etc
4. nurture harmony with nature
5. demonstrate ideas to integrate sustainability in kitchen
6. enlighten about healthy eating; new cooking styles; multi-cultural recipes; and low carbon lifestyles
7. create awareness about Indian and Sikh cultures
8. promote sharing amongst community members
9. educate kids on food security and wastages
10. provide platform to build cooking and volunteering skills
11. serve model for similar community projects
12. create ties with supporters of this proposal
