Aspendale has 3 funded kindergarten programs; Aspendale North, Bonkers Beat, Nola Barber, and an early childhood intervention program, Yarrabah Special Development School. All of these programs are endorsing this project due to the benefits a local natural playspace provides. This playspace will provide the local community opportunities to learn about biodiversity, native fauna and flora, as well as providing opportunities for natural play through climbing, exploring and imaginative play. Carinya Playground is ideal because of it's close proximity to the kindergartens, early childhood centre, 3 primary schools and the popular wetlands trail providing access to the wider community.

Carinya Playground is an underutilised resource with old, inaccessible and underwhelming play equipment. The creation of a natural playspace will bring community members together and allow children to reconnect with nature. There is no natural playspace within the Aspendale area. Nature play provides great benefits to the community as people grow a connection and appreciation of the natural environment. In today’s busy, structured and technologically advanced world natural outdoor play can sometimes be hard to achieve. Its location makes it an ideal site for a nature play space providing opportunity for children of all ages and abilities to enjoy.

This is a great idea- the area truly needs this and connects many surrounding families in a central like location. For our children’s safety and as described the re connection with nature this is a must do in my opinion well done

Fantastic idea to utilise this useless under-used parkland. My children didn't want to play here, we always went to the other playgrounds in Aspendale because they had better and much more equipment. It won't be long before they have children and I hope to my grand children to play here. A natural play space would be ideal.

Hi Missloulou,
Thanks for your support, the equipment certainly is past its use by date and as my son says, it's boring!
I hope by the time your grand children come along we have a lovely new nature play area.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your support to date.

There are 20 days to go with voting so please keep sharing this project with your Victorian networks near and far.

Interestingly we recently found out from Pick My Project team that you can vote out of area, the proviso is however that all 3 of your votes must be in the same area e.g. you cannot vote for 1 project in Aspendale and 2 projects in Coburg, all 3 would have to be in the same area.

Kind regards
Shona, on behalf of Aspendale Nature Play.

I would barely call this a park. Such a wasted opportunity . Would be well used before/after kinder. So many young families would love this

Project Owner

28 Aug 2018

Hi Breecotchin,
We agree its is a wasted opportunity. With 3 kinders, an early intervention program, 3 primary schools, play groups and a local scout group in the area an upgraded playspace has so much to offer!
Thanks for your support :)

The park is passed its use by date and has some safety concerns, natural environments and outdoor play are beneficial to children in many ways. Playing outdoors is important for developing capacities for creativity, symbolic play, problem solving and intellectual development.

There are so many families with young kids in this area and the existing Carinya Ave Reserve play equipment is very outdated and not very safe. The local community would derive much benefit from the proposed upgrade. The local disability school has many activities in the area and this would be a wonderful addition in their education program to be able to access this new proposed project. There is an extremely high density of child education facilities at this time and no local parks that offer diversity or something new. Please give this project your utmost consideration for the local kids.

Hi Sam T,
Thank you for your support! We are really passionate about making sure any new design is inclusive of all children. As a parent (incl. one child with a mobility issues) it would be wonderful to have a play space that my children can explore and engage with nature.
Let's hope we get enough votes to make it a reality!
