The Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens is a unique and beautiful area however it is not accessible by public transport. Located on the outskirts of town, visitation for many people is extremely difficult or impossible, and there is an additional 2 km journey from the front gate to the Visitor Centre. My project aims to address this problem by providing a free, 12 seater bus linking public transport and community hubs to the gardens on weekends, public holidays, school holidays and special events such as NAIDOC and Botanica. The shuttle bus service would also be available to schools and community groups.
The lack of any public transport to the Cranbourne Gardens disadvantages many people within the community who for various reasons do not have access to private transport.
It is well known the many health benefits that connecting with nature provides, along with the added benefits of outdoor exercise and socialising. To have the opportunity to access the Cranbourne Gardens via free transport would greatly enhance the quality and enjoyment of life for many Cranbourne people.
With free entry to the gardens, the addition of free transport provides greater social, recreation and educational opportunities for individuals, families, schools and community groups.

A bus from Cranbourne Railway Station to the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne is needed for visitors without private transport to visit these wonderful gardens. International visitors to Melbourne unless they hire a car are unable to enjoy this showcase if Australian horticulture.

My father helped to plan these gardens before he retired about twenty odd years ago. They are stunning and should be accessible to ALL - whether we drive or not!
