Research – develop a local team to survey and identify opportunities for Craigieburn residents to connect socially.
Training – develop the skillset of the team around volunteer governance, event management and planning as well as consultation and evaluation. This IP stays within the team so it can regenerate and grow to meet Craigieburn’s evolving needs.
Implementation – realise the events and activities the community has suggested: large, small and street-by-street, one-off events and regular activities.
Rinse and Repeat – over the year use this funding to create the framework, develop resources and acquire experience so the efforts are sustainable.
New suburbs attract people who start a relationship with the location. However, modern home design and time-poor lifestyles greatly diminish the chance to encounter others casually, meaning it is possible to reside for months or years without ever meeting the neighbours. WHO research clearly shows many health benefits are enjoyed by a community that is socially connected. Reducing isolation and exclusion also improves a sense of safety. Developing resources such as skills, IP, local knowledge and a strong sense of community, empowers residents to enjoy a healthy sustainable local culture that specifically fits their particular needs and desires.
