Cormorant by the Lakes is a campsite available for Christian and community camping, bringing a variety of community groups into the area with the following groups already using the site:
- Gippsland & East Gippsland Aboriginal Co-Operative (GEGAC)
- East Coast Kayaking
- Nagle college in Bairnsdale
- Bairnsdale & District Field Naturalists Club
- Church of Christ
- Sale Baptists
- Revive youth camps
- St Hilary's Kew
- Northcote & Fairfield community families

The site is run on donations from campers and other supporters. An injection of funds is sought to update the current facilities.

The toilet facilities at the Cormorant by the Lakes campsite are from the 1970s and provide no focus for a more diverse group of campers. While the facilities have been maintained over the years, they were not designed for ease of access for family groups, all-gender use and disabled access. Of late, the wood fired hot water service has failed, requiring replacement to electricity. The toilets were also damaged at a previous community camp, the roof leaks and a concrete water tank has failed. The target is to make the facility self-sustaining, with solar power for hot water heating.

Government Department which is managing this voting process is short-sighted and narrow minded. To believe that you only have a one location community is parochial.
It is too hard to persevere with such a dumb system.
And the log-in process is clunky. You should lift your game.

Camping is such a fantastic way if getting to know others and build community. This place has served the community for many years. A resource for all that needs support.
