There are many reasons this road needs to be sealed. Historic Psyche pumps, Chaffey trail, family campers, school excursions, canoe launching ramps for able and the disabled, and critically the need for responding crews from Powercor, LMW to respond instantly to power fails/resets on lines/pumps on the "new" Psyche pumps during outages, and quite often this is during storm events, making access a dangerous task. This needs to be achieved so as growers are not compromised with no water to irrigate. The "new" Psyche pump station is the "blockies" lively hood. All in all, this is one road that nearly every member of the public uses often and should be sealed.

To ensure a range of small and large communities had the opportunity to be part of Pick My Project, no more than 50 per cent of a regional partnership areas funding was awarded to one local government area (LGA). As a result this project was unsuccessful.

Construction of the Psyche Bend Road will provide all weather access to the Murray River environs and to the historic Psyche Bend Pumping Station enhancing local and visitor experiences.
The historic irrigation Pump Station was built in 1888-90 and was pivotal in the establishment of Mildura. It is operated several times per year and open for inspection thrice weekly. It attracts some 3000 visitors per year.
The road is the only access point to the Murray River for many kilometers being a hugely popular area for day trippers and campers.
Wet weather closes the road preventing access and stranding campers.
The local community's' enjoyment will increase through continuous all weather access. Visitation numbers will increase generating an increase in economic flow on benefits.
The riverine environment served by this road includes Kings Billabong Wildlife Reserve.
The area is used by many school groups for educational, environmental and recreational pursuits. It is regularly used by trail-walking, horse-riding, off- road bicycling, canoeing, fishing and service clubs.
The Psyche Pavilion is used for school camps and private functions such as parties and weddings. It has also hosted governmental functions and official luncheons most notably a visit by the Commonwealth Governor General.

About time this was done.... It's a disgrace it hasn't been improved!
The pumping station is iconic to the area which is visited by many tourists as well as locals.
Sealing the road would make the area safer and more accessible.
The Psyche Bend pumping station is recognised throughout the world as one of the first examples of steam engine driven irrigation pumps. It is kept in working condition by a small but enthusiastic band of volunteers for the many visitors that are drawn to it from Australia and all around the world.
It deserves a decent access road.
A fabulous community historic asset, with 365 day access in question. Our chance to enhance our piece of history by allowing all to enjoy the 'whole Chaffey Trail' locals and visitors alike, including the school programs that have had to be 'deferred' due to unsafe road conditions. This sites continued existence is a reflection on the volunteers of this community through the Steam Preservations Society and the Psyche Pumps Historic Reserve Committee.
This site marks the beginning of irrigation in our region by the Chaffey's. Psyche Pumps now has two prominent International Awards and many Australian awards and acknowledgements for engineering and mechanical engineering excellence but ACCESS being unreliable ~ one of their open days recently, it was a 'challenge' to gain access and many cars turned away due to the condition of the road for SAFETY reasons.
The site is a prominent feature on the Chaffey Trail and tells stories of how irrigation was first made possible through the Psyche Pumps and the ingenuity of the Chaffey's, George in particular with the development of the Chaffey Tangye (Birmingham) Pump. Interipretive sites and storyline surround the site and our blue overall volunteers who engage with their visitors, telling stories of our past making it a truely wonderful educational experience and keep the pumps in operation.
Engineers around the world are now aware of this site due to being the recipient of those International awards, not a positive experience if access is denighed.
Iconic sites should be accessible for all to enjoy every day - we value our history, but not above everyones safety.
Excellent initiative. Psyche pumping station and the surrounding facilities and riverine sites are iconic and improved access is fundamental to more people being able to enjoy area. project should have been done years ago
It needs doing.

Would be good if a safe walking track was extended to Cureton Avenue too. Far too many pedestrian/cyclist/horse riding near misses on this extremely dangerous stretch of road!
In the time I have lived on this road, I have witnessed very close calls, people skidding out crashing into trees and being lucky to walk away and people nearly running over people, or going head on into other traffic because of the dangerous road surface. I have been told that because this is not actually a 'road' (despite the name) that it is legal to do 100kms, but it's not safe to do more than 20kms because of the pot holes, gutters and corregation. In winter it is very muddy, and summer it is too dusty to see where you are going.
As soon as it rains, people go 4x4 on it and ruin it for everyone else, there is actually a lot of traffic that uses this road and it's time that something is done about it.
An upgrade is well overdue the road is a disgrace for such a unique and Historical venue. Both locals and visitors use this road.
There are some individual components which have some rarity. The George Chaffey triple expansion steam engines at Mildura were a portent of a trend in technology which put George Chaffey somewhat ahead of the pack in using marine steam engine technology (with which he was very familiar from his younger days on the Great Lakes) to land-based engines directly coupled to large capacity, high speed centrifugal pumps. In that respect the two triple expansion steam engines at Mildura are unique and of extreme heritage value.
The various pumping stations were constructed by the Chaffey brothers as part of their vast irrigation scheme built after 1887. The brothers had come from North America, with the support of Alfred Deakin, where they had gained experience in California and around the Great Lakes.
The pumping stations fed an extensive system of irrigation channels. Psyche Bend was the first station, pumping water from the river using three pumps each capable of 35,500 gallons per minute. King's Billabong was the main re-lift pumping station with the Ninety Foot and Nichol's Point pumping stations further along the main channel serving the higher irrigable land areas in the settlement.
This project will benefit everyone in the community including visitors, and is long overdue to be completed.
This is long overdue
This will improve access to recreation for all age groups, residents of the entire district and visitors as well.
This road will improve life for locals and visitors alike. Should have been done without this vote.
The Psyche Pumps are a World Heritage Engineering site and visitors should be able to have access to them any day. At present the access road is disgraceful. Why do we have to have a competition to fix it up? This road should be adequately funded. I'm voting for it but it is sad that we have to vote to get it done.
I have found that driving along this road is often dangerous because of the conditions. Sealing it would reduce the chance of accidents and possible tragedy.
This road is used daily by many in Sunraysia! This project would be hugely beneficial to the community and will ensure the road will be accessible in any weather
This road improvement is long overdue. It is a heavily used road by locals and tourists, some with boats, caravans & camping trailers, so sealing it would be good for the whole community.
