This project is about bringing your neighbours together for a fun time whilst getting to know each other more during the ‘Festival of Neighbours’ to be held across Southern Grampians and Glenelg areas. The hosts, which anyone can be, determines what type of get-together is best for their neighbourhood, organises the event and invites neighbours to attend. Sponsored prizes from local businesses and entertainers along with project funds can assist in making each gathering special. Neighbour gathering hosts, will also be further supported and trained to enhance the valuable role they play in connecting their neighbours and community together.
Strong communities are built on connected neighbourhoods, underpinned by neighbours who look out for one another. Gatherings of neighbours are the perfect opportunity to make connections in today’s busy world. This project is about strengthening community from the neighbourhood level up and everyone will benefit from a greater connection with their neighbours.
Just as importantly, the project will also uncover natural ‘community connectors’, people who are passionate about their community and have a knack for connecting people. These neighbourhood gathering hosts will be nurtured and supported to continue their important role as ‘community connectors’ in their communities.
