This project supports the growing local and regional community interest, knowledge and engagement in Aboriginal Culture. Our project provides many shared benefits. Building of a unique x2 Mayam (Dja Dja Wurrung Shelter) visitors can walk amongst and enjoy the outdoor space whilst be engaged through Dja Dja Wurrung (DDW) interpretive signage, promoting our shared history and cultural knowledge. Situated at the Bendigo Creek frog ponds, the community will able to learn about the important role of wetlands in urban areas and their natural and cultural values. Contributing to their own connection to the health and wellbeing of their local area.
The shelters have a unique DDW design and will provide valuable amenity (shelter and seating) which will support the considerable investment made towards the O’Keefe rail trail, the Bendigo Creek trail, Werroona College and the new Wanyarram Dhelk Frog Ponds. The addition of cultural interpretive signage will aid in reconciliation by illustrating to the wider community the relationship between the Dja Dja Wurrung people and Country. It is anticipated that this project will support ongoing cultural and educational opportunities through walks and talks as well as supporting reconciliation events, bringing communities together.

You should visit the site next to the creek near Knight street White Hills. You can see what the Dja Dja Wurrung have already done to an area that was an old dump site right next to the creek, it’s pretty impressive so far!
