The aim of this 12 month pilot project is to establish a supportive environment for students of all high schools in Hamilton..
The funding will pay for:
- Hiring a community venue to hold bi-weekly Youth Cafes (aka C4YB Shindigs)
- Furniture, games, activities, instruments etc
- Community members to run music and skills workshops
The Community 4 Youth Board is overseen by WDHS. However; the money will be managed by the C4YB, which includes student representatives from all high schools. C4YB in partnership with WDHS will scope out suitable venues that appeals.
There is a proven need for infrastructure to support youth with issues such as family and school stress, homelessness, low Year 12 attainment, drug abuse and mental health issues.
While this project cannot fix these problems, it aims to help by providing a space where youth can relax, have fun, meet new people and discuss issues relating to young people.
Supported by WDHS, information/advice can be provided.
As the group grows, the Youth Cafe can become a conduit for greater change in the community, growing young leaders who care about their town and want to see young lives changed.

While young people in Hamilton and districts have access to excellent schools, opportunities to meet outside of school is notably lacking. This limits opportunities for young people from different schools to mix, build friendships and build a local youth community. A place for young people to hang out is much needed. The Community Youth Cafe is an essential project for Hamilton. Please give it your vote.
