Combining a volunteer medical transport program and a Learn to Drive program will enable our young people to achieve the required 120 hours of driving practice and also provide transport for members of our community that need to access to medical appointments.
We will combine the L2P program where young people are supported to learn to drive with transport to medical appointments either within the Loddon Shire or to Bendigo.
This program will link our young people with older persons from the community to provide opportunities for greater understanding of the issues and opportunities available within the shire.
Loddon Shire has many small towns spread across the shire. With a high proportion of residents over 65 years, almost 37% of households earning less than $650 per week, and a high proportion of single parent families, finding time to provide the 120 hours of learner driving time is difficult.
Many local people need to attend medical appointments on a regular basis, both within the shire and to the regional centre of Bendigo.
We plan to combine BOTH issues by delivering a transport program to get people to medical appointments and provide much needed driving experience for our youth
